so far i like mine.

i put them on platforms though and the actual tab that holds the end that you pinch scrapes pretty bad.

also, anyone know what to do about keeping the thing in place? mine slipped out of the clincher thing today and i cranked down on them even more but just wondering if anyone has problems with them still or have any tricks to making damn sure they never go away

and what pedals are ya'll using them with? anyone run them with those mini wellgo platforms?

Good thread idea!

They're def not for everyone, but I am enjoying their simplicity and they do the trick.

So far mine haven't really slipped much, my main issue is from bending the metal bit when the bike goes crashing, and yeah, it gets scraped sometimes too.

I've been thinking of just making up my own mounting technique, also, I want to figure out a way to just use seatbelt material to pull this off.

seatbelt material is a good idea, but i can definitely see the possibilities of it slipping. hmmm, maybe with some industrial velcro? there are endless things that can be done. I might have to bust out my sewing machine and come up with something. there's this other nylon strap material that's "coarser" which i could see working for the fact it will grip better with a metal clip.

but i just run toshi's mine have never slipped, and if the double strap thing bugs you just zip tie them together so they're not all over the place, if you're not running cages to keep them in place.

I don't think the material's coarseness will affect slippage all that much; as long as the pedals have some tread on them, and the straps are on snug (and cover enough of the foot), tension should keep you strapped.

I ride them on some cheap no name BMX pedals. I love them. They aren't clips, but when clips can't fit on your pedals, and you really like BMX pedals, they work very well.

I've had the scraping problem too, not too frequently, but it does happen. More of an annoyance than anything is the extra flap of material that scrapes; doesn't actually cause a bump in the ride, but still. I suppose that's what knives are for. Right now I've got a few alternative ideas, but I'd like to throw them down before I blab my genius away, hah.

I've been riding them on both my bikes and my girlfriend does too. Even with the 650 on front I haven't had too much trouble but I'm also running 165 cranks so it helps a lot. The thing I like is not having the scrape of an upside down cage on the ground when I ride them on the other side.
Just moved over to beartraps on my track BMX hybrid type bastardized bike and haven't bothered to put any straps on them. They hold your feet like no other. The only concern I have is with backward spin tricks. I'm not sure if you really need to be held in for the back pedalling on more forced tricks. Any idea's?

Riding with bmx pedals and no straps of any kind seems ideal in a fantasy world, but really, you need to be able to pull up in soooooo many situations to make these bikes do all the things they can do. Many tricks and also several riding techniques use some amount of pulling up.

Jennnnn - the slipping reference was to the strap slipping at the adjuster screw. But this is a problem I haven't had.

I am going to try to make my own powergrips, I know I like the concept, now I have to improve on it.

Well the concept is a slightly loose strap that is twisted to taek up the slack

so techncially, you could just drill a hole in the pedal and put a metal eye in the strap and then bolt it thru

Yeah for sure, the only thing is getting the fit right.

I made my own and loved them but I did a rush job and thus they suck now.

One strap is loser then the other but yet I can get in better and get a better twist so it actually hold better.

I was to cheap and lazy plus don't know how to put metal eyes in fabric so My one strap has fell apart.

Other then that I think My design works great. All I need now is to remeasure and pout some metal eyelets in the fab. Plus a long bolt would help in mounting and ind give a few more threads of support.

I will get this done by wednesday and post my results.

I made these out of military canvas material and then just bolted it onto my pedals.
So far they keep my feet in place and seem pretty tough.
I was using the original Powergrips before but they were slipping alot out of the compression screw thingy. So i poked a hole in them and screwed it into my pedal. It made it stay in place for a while until i was bombing a hill and the strap snapped causing me to ghost ride my bike!!

Cool DIY setup!

It's hard to describe, but I can see a slight change you could make to improve them slightly.. hmm, maybe I will just make a set and post that.

i imagine seatbelt material would be too soft and would be a bitch to flip your pedals and get into since you'd probably just step on them

this military canvas belt material retains its shape so its pretty easy to slide into.
Its also pretty tough so i dont think the screws will tear it.

I would like to see everyones creation of there own powergrips.
Maybe we can all combine ideas like voltron and make a trick track version.

Cheers Tom,
thing is tho, so far I haven't had too many issues. I gave up on leaning forward for skids a while ago changing to a hop and dig approach which works well without straps. Keo's haven't been too much of an issue yet but honestly I suck on them still so I'm no expert where thats concerned.
The thing I've been pondering is the fact that theres so much control riding BMX with no straps at all going forward I figure with the right technique it'll transfer over for riding backwards.
I'm not disagreeing with you at all and i am completely with you on the fact that if the bike is attached to your feet its going to make life easier in many ways. I've ridden BMX on and off for 27 yrs now and even after a year of strapping into my pedals it still doesn't feel entirely comfortable.
I hope I'm not just flogging a dead horse here because as I said before I'm a huge advocate of powerstraps over cages and I'll probably end up with them back on my bike.
For now tho I'm going to keep riding with none and see where it takes me. I like the fact one footed tricks are easier to through in.
We'll see
Cheers

ive been riding powergrips for over a year and theyre fine. my problem with them is not that the straps slip out of the bolt, but rather the mounts hit the ground and get all bent up and make the straps super tight- i solved that though by bending the metal pieces a bit. the bigger problem for me is the cheap bolts which are used on the cincher thing- they are stripped and i fear im going to have to drill/ saw them off. the straps work great but you really need to wrench down on that bolt, but when you do that the bolts strip. ive seen seatbelt style ones online for like 25 bucks but i forgot what site/blog they were on and im kinda pissed. they were real beefy red/green seatbelts turned into powergrips which seemed cool.

Justin Taylor created the feetbelt. its made out of 2 seatbelts and they work pretty great. Ive been wearing the shirt and riding them for about a week now and they are dope. pretty strong
